Obama proposes new rule for immigrant families The Obama Administration is proposing a tweak to current immigration law which would allow undocumented immigrants who are immediate relatives of citizens could stay in the U.S. while applying for permanent residency with the goal is to reduce a family’s time apart.” The Obama administration is proposing to make it easier for illegal immigrants who are immediate family members of American citizens to apply for permanent residency, a move that could affect as many as 1 million of the estimated 11 million immigrants living here illegally. The new rule, which the Department of Homeland Security will post for public comment, would reduce the time illegal immigrants are separated from their American families while seeking legal status, immigration officials said. Currently, such immigrants must leave the country to apply for a legal visa, often leading to long stints away as they await resolution of their applications.

Ryan Defends Romney On Immigration Record Paul Ryan has gone to the mats to promote Mitt Romneys immigration plan. The only problem Romney doesn’t have one. “In recent weeks, Romney has come under  criticism from Democrats who accuse the GOP frontrunner of being “the most extreme presidential nominee of our time” on the issue of immigration. But nothing could be further from the truth, according to one of Romney’s top supporters – and possible future running mate – Rep. Paul Ryan, R-Wisc.”

Alabama Immigration Law Opponents Won’t Be Joined By Top Auto Manufacturer  Auto Manufacturers hurt by Alabama’s anti immigration legislation have decided that they will not be joining the laws opponents in a lawsuit to stop the harsh law. ” A top officer with Daimler Motor Company told opponents of Alabama’s immigration law Wednesday that the corporation will not publicly call for repeal, even after the measure led to the arrest of a German executive with the company in the state. It wasn’t the result civil and immigrant-rights groups wanted when they traveled to Berlin this week to confront company executives at a shareholders meeting Wednesday. Still, they said the fact the company responded at all — so far their requests to talk to top Daimler officials have gone unanswered — was a good sign. They were also encouraged by Daimler Chief Financial Officer Bobo Uebber’s statement that the company is closely following the law and even discussing it with Alabama business groups and members of the U.S. House of Representatives.”
